Time running out for Dembele’s Chinese Take-Away

Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele ihas been touted for a likely departure this summer on many occasions.

The Belgian turns 31 on July 16th  and after his eighth season in English football, he is reportedly interested in trying a new league this summer and the Chinese Super League interests the midfielder.

Belgium international Dembele, signed from Fulham in 2012, has just one year left on his Spurs contract and has not agreed a new deal and Tottenham are ready to listen to offers for him this summer.

A potential stumbling block in any deal is the significant profit Spurs will want on the £15m they paid Fulham for his services especially if he is to remain in Europe. The fee won’t be an issue for Chinese suitors however one issue, and it’s a big one, remains on any deal in China. The Chinese transfer window closes this evening (13/07/18) and Dembele is still with the Belgium squad in Russia. So for now a deal looks unlikely.

Mauricio Pochettino remains a huge fan of Dembele, repeatedly hailing him as a “genius” last season and saying he was on a level with Ronaldinho and Diego Maradona as the most talented player he has ever worked with.

Dembele had a slow start to last season but gradually he produced some performances of his usual technical and muscular brilliance, especially in home league wins against Arsenal and Manchester United.
