Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies has lauded the performance of his teammate Rodrigo Bentancur after the Uruguayan’s two goals helped Spurs defeat Leeds United yesterday afternoon.
Spurs hosted an in-form Leeds at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the final Premier League game before the World Cup break. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with Spurs coming from behind three times to take all three points in a 4-3 win.
With the North London side losing 3-2, Bentancur stepped up to the plate with a goal on 81 minutes to level the encounter. Just two minutes later he sealed the victory, after some fine work from Dejan Kulusevski to play him in for a simple finish in the box.
Bentancur is having an unbelievable season, and his brace against Leeds takes his goal tally to five this campaign (Transfermarkt). His performances have been praised ever since his arrival at Spurs, but the 25-year-old is really starting to find his feet now, it seems.
Fellow Spurs man Ben Davies was also on the scoresheet yesterday with an impressive driving effort from the edge of the penalty area and in a chat with the club’s official website, the Welshman was full of praise for the midfielder.
Davies said: “He’s top-class. I think he’s really put in some excellent performances for us.”
“He carries the ball, breaks the play up and he’s added goals to his game as well so it’s performance after performance week in week out and the boys are really happy for him,” Davies added.
Spurs Web Opinion
What a signing Rodrigo Bentancur has proven to be. He’s not only been one of our best players this season, but is right up there now as one of the best midfielders in the whole league. He’s excellent in defensive situations, breaking up the play and helping Spurs turn defence into attack quickly. Now though, he’s adding goals to his game, and is looking more and more like a complete midfielder with each game.
