Tottenham target left out of matchday squad

Tottenham transfer target Ben Wilmot has been pulled out of Stevenage’s squad to face Newport with a move imminent, according to The Sun.

Spurs along with several sides including Arsenal have followed the fortunes of the 18-year-old centre-back during his first senior campaign.

He is already an England Under-19 international, despite playing for a League One club and has been the subject of bids worth around £1million.

However a deal seems almost certainly, possibly to the tune of £2million as Stevenage’s Phil Wallace concedes he could be off at the start of the transfer window.

Wallace said: “Ben came back from International Duty with England last week and we have had developments that suggest a deal will be agreed shortly for him to move when the window opens.

“We have had interest from Premier League and Championship clubs, which is not surprising when Ben is recognised by England as being one of the top four centre halves at his age level, with the other three coming from Man City, Chelsea and Spurs.

He added; “We have made public our valuation and the closer we are getting to that the more likely it is that Ben will move.”

The article goes on to credit Chelsea, Liverpool, Burnley, Brighton and Bournemouth as registering an interest, along with Watford but now it appears either Tottenham or Arsenal will get their man.
