Veltman Responds to Transfer Talk

Ajax centre-back Joel Veltman has revealed a desire to leave the Amsterdam Arena this Summer, but played down rumours linking him with Tottenham, according to the Evening Standard.

Joel Veltman has been linked with a move to Spurs for over 12 months now, but today the 25 year old finally responded to the speculation.

When speaking to Dutch news outlet VI, the defender revealed that Spurs striker Vincent Janssen, who’s currently on international duty with Veltman, has been drawing attention to the possibility of the two being both club and international team-mates next season. He said:

“Vincent Janssen was joking that we will become team-mates, but there is nothing to it as of yet.”

“I have spoken with my agent, but he is unaware of any interest from Tottenham.”

Despite playing down the rumours linking him with Tottenham, Veltman did go on to strongly suggest he’ll be leaving Ajax this Summer.

“I have one year left on my current contract,” He added. “So normally I will either renew or be sold. That is only logical. There will be clarity after my holiday. But a transfer is a bigger option than before.”

“Ajax’s offer to renew is a nice gesture, they want me to stay. But this could be the moment for me to look at other options. But the right club will have to come along. There is nothing concrete for now, but I am not in a rush.”

Do you think Spurs should make a move? Veltman has implied here that he’s open to an approach and for £8 million, it’d hardly be breaking the bank. Leave your thoughts below.
