VIDEO: AVB on Jermaine Defoe’s future

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas said there was “no reason” for striker Jermaine Defoe to move in January and that their two recent wins in the Premier League “shows that in the end that we are not so far off”.

The striker who has been playing second fiddle for the majority of the season to Roberto Soldado has been heavily linked with a move to MLS side Toronto.

Defoe is keen to play regular first-team football with one eye on next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham Hotspur manager (Q: Jermaine Defoe was linked to a move to Toronto, do you understand his eagerness to move in January to get some games in a World Cup year?) “Yeah he’s playing at the moment, he’s got involved in the last two games so it shifted a little bit in terms of selection for him. He’s played these last two Premier League games in a row, we’ve given him that confidence, so you know at the moment I see no reason for him to move.”
