Wanyama: I feel at home at Spurs

Victor Wanyama says Tottenham already feels like home after scoring the winning goal for his new club against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Wanyama’s 83rd-minute header on his home debut at White Hart Lane gave Spurs a 1-0 victory and their first three points of the season.

The Kenyan midfielder had previously worked with Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton and admits he already feels settled in north London.

“The lads have been great to me, it feels like I’ve been here for a very long time,” Wanyama said.

“Everyone has been very happy to help so it’s been very easy for me to settle in.

“I know the manager from before and how he works and what he wants. That has made it easy for me coming here because he underlines what he wants in games so that has been good.”

With Mousa Dembele still serving a six-match suspension, Wanyama has been given an early chance to impress alongside Eric Dier in midfield.

The 25-year-old endured a mixed debut against Everton last weekend but was more assured against Palace, capping an impressive performance with a decisive goal.

“I have been given a chance, that is what we are training for every day, to get a chance in my position this season and it is important to do hard work in training,” Wanyama said.

“I am happy to have been given a chance and so far I think it has been good.

“The first home game it is important to get a good result and we were happy we managed to do that.

“It is very important to get my goal, especially on my debut. To do it in front of our fans was amazing and hopefully I can build from this.”
