Centre half Toby Alderweireld has said last night’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Ham after being 2-0 in front was a reality check for the Belgium International and his team mates.
Unbeaten in 11, we looked on course to reach the League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday night at Wembley after first half goals from Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli gave us a 2-0 lead at the break
However, and somewhat inconceivably, the hammers scored 3 goals in 15 minutes in the second including two from Andre Ayew, which sealed a win and quarter-final spot.
Alderweireld said: “We were not flying or anything in our heads, but I think it’s a good reality check that you still need to work very hard, even if you’re 2-0 up, to get results.”
He continued ‘You have to keep the level up because if you drop it a little bit you see what happens. It’s a good thing to learn.
“Of course we’d love to have won, but we don’t have to be too dramatic about it. Next time we have to do better, and we focus on Saturday.”
