Winks fears World Cup heartbreak

Harry Winks fears his ankle problem could rule him out of the World Cup.

His game time in recent months has continually been hampered by a persistent ankle injury, which he first suffered at the end of last season.

Mauricio Pochettino has been cautious with Winks and will continue to be so due to his fitness concerns. The young star exploded onto the international scene last year, performing brilliantly in his England debut against Lithuania in October.

However it’s been all change this season and he now faces an anxious wait to discover whether he is called up for England’s friendlies with Holland and Italy when Gareth Southgate names his squad on Thursday, and considering his game time in recent weeks seems unlikely.

Winks is not the only player in doubt, after Harry Kane was left on crutches following an ankle injury suffered in Sunday’s win at Bournemouth and we await anxiously on the results of scans due once swelling has subsided. There were reports yesterday that he faced seven weeks on the sidelines which hadn’t been confirmed by the club.
