Winks undergoes ankle surgery

Spurs midfielder Harry Winks has undergone successful surgery on his troublesome ankle as he begins preparations to be fit for the start of next season.

Winks was ruled out of England’s World Cup campaign after playing only three matches since the turn of the year. The young star featured in 25 Premier League games for Spurs last season, and made his international debut in England’s 1-0 win over Lithuania back in October in a Man of the Match performance.

Had he been fit he no doubt would have been in contention to make Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia however he missed the majority of the second half of his campaign with the troublesome ankle problem.

He last featured for the club in our 6-1 FA Cup replay win over Rochdale at Wembley in February and the 22-year-old was awarded a new deal by the club agreeing terms on a five-year contract earlier this month.
