Dimitar Berbatov re-iterates Mauricio Pochettino’s future Tottenham hopes

Dimitar Berbatov has re-iterated that Mauricio Pochettino wants to return to Tottenham Hotspur in the future.

The Argentinian was relieved of his duties at Tottenham in November following a disastrous start to the season which saw the club drop to fourteenth in the Premier League table along with suffering humiliation in cup competition at the hands of Colchester United and Bayern Munich.

The ex-Southampton boss, who spent more than five years in North London admitted in an interview with BT Sport in April of desire to return to Spurs at some stage in his managerial career in the future.

Pochettino has been out of work since leaving Spurs and is keen on a return to the Premier League and has been linked with the Newcastle United job (Guardian).

Berbatov believes that Spurs fans must accept that Jose Mourinho is the man in charge for the moment and can understand why some supporters could still be upset over the nature of the departure of Pochettino.

He told Betfair: “I hope Spurs finish as high up as possible, they’re far off fourth but they could surprise people. If next season is a normal one, as we hope, then they can prove themselves properly.

“Sometimes you must take one step back before two steps forward. I understand people are criticising Jose Mourinho and are still unhappy about the way Mauricio Pochettino left, but this is where Spurs are. Mourinho is doing his own thing, next season you can judge him when he has them fully prepared.

“It’s possible that Pochettino will be back one day. I know he wants to return and he is loved there, but for now Mourinho is in charge.”
