Jamie Redknapp highlights player key to Tottenham’s poor run of form

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered thirteen defeats in the Premier League already this season, yet still, find themselves occupying the final Champions League spot in the table.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have suffered with consistency during the current campaign which has seen them win just three of their last ten top-flight matches.

After failing to bring in any new faces during the last two transfer windows, former Spurs midfielder Jamie Redknapp has highlighted the departure of Mousa Dembele during the January transfer window as a fundamental reason for the club’s on-field issues.

Redknapp has urged Tottenham to recruit in the midfield area during the summer if the club want to continue on their arc of progression.

There is no doubt that the centre of midfield has been an issue for Spurs this season with Victor Wanyama, Harry Winks and Eric Dier all having suffered long spells on the sidelines due to respective injury problems.

Redknapp told Sky Sports‘ Premier League channel during the broadcast of Bournemouth vs Spurs on 4/5/19: “I think they need to buy in the summer, get some strength in midfield because they’ve lost Dembele, who for me was one of the best, so they need to get someone in who can get them to that next level.”

Spurs travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax on Wednesday night having won just once away from home in the Champions League this season and cannot afford another inconsistent display.

Eric Dier was abysmal in Saturday’s defeat to Bournemouth which means that Victor Wanyama could be the likely midfield partner for Moussa Sissoko.

Spurs need to spend big in multiple areas this summer, with the midfield being a priority.
