Report: Agent reveals that La Liga player turned down Tottenham move twice in 2017

Sky Sports reported back in 2014 that Tottenham had failed in an attempt to sign Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal.

The Argentine was reportedly willing to listen to a Spurs offer, but quickly rejected it, with Villarreal also unwilling to do business.

Tottenham instead turned their attention towards Federico Fazio, then of Sevilla, who eventually signed for the North London side.

Musacchio played a total of 249 games for Villarreal between 2009 and 2017, scoring seven goals in that time. He then moved to AC Milan, where he has remained ever since (Wikipedia).

Marcelo Lombilla, Musacchio’s agent, has now revealed that he and his client turned down Tottenham twice in 2017. He added that Mateo asked for him not to even talk to two Spanish clubs and an English side about a potential deal.

On the other hand, Lombilla reveals it took just 30 seconds to say yes to a move to AC Milan three years ago as Musacchio has always loved the club.

He said (Milan News): “In December, to give you an idea, when he was playing and was at a very high level, as well as the team, at that time I was in Italy with him. I saw Mateo of the national team and Villarreal again.

“He didn’t want me to talk to two very important Spanish teams and an English team, he didn’t even want me to sit down to listen. He didn’t want to, the way he felt involved in Milan and how well he was doing. He’s fine at Milan, he’s always loved the club and he’s always wanted it.”

“In 2017 we said no to Tottenham twice, and in 30 seconds we said yes to Milan.”
