“What a joke this is” – Some fans react in disbelief to Hugo Lloris announcement

Yesterday it was announced that Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had made the shortlist for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award (Spurs official).

Four Premier League-based keepers are in the running for the Yashin Award – named after Russia legend Lev Yashin – the only goalkeeper to have won the Ballon d’Or itself.

The Spurs skipper was named along with Liverpool’s Alisson, Ederson of Manchester City and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

News of Lloris’ nomination was met with surprise from from football supporters.

The French international had produced some crucial saves over the past twelve months including a penalty stop against Manchester City in the Champions League along with denying Arsenal a North London victory at Wembley last season.

While Lloris is certainly a brilliant shot stopper, his ability with the ball at his feet can often be questionable. You just need to look back at the recent error he made against Southampton when he attempted to perform a Cryuff turn in his own penalty area as proof.

Lloris is currently sidelined after suffering a dislocated elbow against Brighton, which ironically was the result of him misjudging the ball from a cross.

Here is how some fans reacted to the news.
