They got some luck today but they never give up chance after chance, in the Norwich penalty area looking for the win and believing they can get it ..... We were dire against Fulham and then we wonder how we get no luck in games, one good chance right at the end .... one and only one. The peno decision was a little odd but they went for the kill and won the game. The writing is on the wall.

Interesting post from Trix on COYS.

Seen a lot of talk on here recently regarding who should and shouldn't be starting in the two CM/DM roles. Everyone obviously has a different opinion when it comes to what type of players we should play and who the partnership should be. Now stats don't always tell the whole story and I'm sure some will argue this point in this thread regardless of what it says in the thread title. Now I think I have covered most of the bases as far as what stats are the most important to a CM but I couldn't find any numbers on where passes were played etc. I only used the 5 players that have started regularly from CM and not those that have played in multiple positions like Dempsey and Gylfi who have played either wider or more advanced when they have started. It is also worth noting that Dembele and Sandro have a lot more games under their belts than the other three.

PC - Pass completion per game.
    TPG - Touches per game.
KP - Average Key passes per game
T - Average tackles per game
I - Average number of interceptions per game

It is also worth noting that Sandro and the Moose win twice as many aerial duels than the other three.

    Thudd 0.4,  Parker 0.4, Jake 0.4, Sandro 0.9, Moose 1

Very very simple for me in that when fit Sandro and Dembele are head and shoulders above the other three and that Parker and Thudd as back up are polar opposites as CM's and both offer something different. It is very easy to see why we looked so solid in midfield with the Moose-Beast  partnership as neither Parker or Thudd  are anywhere near being able to replace either.

Not an ideal result but not quite a disaster either.
Adebayor looked something resembling a 100k a week footballer for once and hopefully he can maintain that level of involvment and put in a shift for all of our remaining games.
I understand what some people are saying about Holtby but up until a month or so ago, weren't we saying the same about Siggy?.
At the moment the Basel game dosen't mean much to me as I am more concerned with the trifling matter of having Chelsea and Man City as our next two league games. We need two wins on the scale of the 2009/10 season when we beat Arsenal and Chelsea in the space of a week and these wins did so much to get us a CL place that season.

First, I think that their first goal Jagielka climbed all over Vertonghen. If Jagielka was inside and Vertonghen held him down and then cleared the ball I have no doubt a penalty would have been given. I do think Lloris should come and got that ball. Second Everton goal was just a great bit of individual play from Mirallas.
Now, as much as a draw is not what we all wanted there are tons of positives to take from this game. The effort and never quit attitude was there and a point from behind late was the result. Gylfi well deserved as he has been growing into things and is finally getting settled. Another big goal from him. Adebayor put in a shift today. Good hold up play all day, working hard, scored and almost got the second but the bar denied him. Credit where credit is do. Walker, with the exception of the outburst played well. Dembele as well getting forward and a bit baffled by him coming off for THudd when Dempsey and Holtby were offering very little.
Lloris with that late save, Huddlestone distributed very well and made us less predictable. I love Tommy Carrol's vision. Parker was a lion as usual.
On another note, watched QPR and what I would not give to have Townsend back to fill in for Lennon. He was brilliant for QPR. Surely the loan would have a call back clause.....?

With all the injuries we've had to deal with, with trying to get CL football on the cheap and continuously neglecting we have no strikers or wingers I thought quite a few of the lads done well today.

Adebayor, Sigurdsson, Walker were my pick of the bunch. Holtby, Parker, Dembele, Lloris all tried but just wasn't good enough today. Huddlestone and Carroll done well when asked.

AVB made some poor substitutions, waited too long to react and cost us along with typical errors. The clubs doing their best not to finish in the top four, why on earth did Levy spend money bringing in Clint Dempsey when the club clearly needed a striker or back up winger? Oh that's right because the Messi deal fell through last minute...

Now before people start to slag off 21 year old Caulker, does anyone remember what Ledley King was like at that age? The boy needs a consistent run of games to improve, picking an ageing Gallas who won't be here next season is quite baffling. I would rather lose a game with Caulker in defence, purely for the reason he can learn from the experience, does Gallas really care?

So we needed goals today, any strikers on the bench? We are at our best with two pacey wingers, playing a 433, the moment a player gets injured our system and tactics have to be changed. That doesn't happen at the top clubs, if a winger gets injured at Arsenal, they replace him with a ....wait for it....another winger.

Instead of blaming Harry, the England job, the media, lets ask the people who have been running the club for the last 11 years, why are we making the same mistakes even after the previous people blamed have gone?

We have a good starting 10 players, after that our squad isn't able to cope with the demand of competing with the top clubs.

Hopefully now Kaboul is nearly back we'll never see Gallas wear the shirt again.
I don't have a problem with Parker going forward, I just think Dembele should be doing more of that, taking more responsibility. After all he isn't he the one with the ball playing skills?

Ok I'll probably get shot down for this!
I think the moose, who is rated as one of our better players, is either out of form or lacking confidence. I see he can be great at bringing the ball out from defence and starting an attack, but why is it Parker is the one doing this so much more, and usually getting berated when he runs into a dead end or losing the ball, Parker is the DM. Against Basel Dembele did run a couple of times, though had the opportunity to run and dribble numerous times, he just stalled and passed the ball backwards or sidewards. It seems to me he is scared to go forward, and even shits himself when gets near the final third. Gordon Strachan said the other night that it's like the team goes out for a kickabout and waits for Bale to work some magic and I'm tending to agree with him. Moussa should be screaming for that ball and driving forward. I wish he had a bit of Holtbys' aggression, then he would be something to talk about. Someone has to man up now Bale is out for who knows how long and I doubt it will be Dembele. Rant over : ))

Tottenham's Mousa Dembele backing players to step up in Gareth Bale's absence
Mousa Dembele is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the top of the Premier League even if Gareth Bale misses a number of key games.
Welshman Bale was stretchered off at the end of Spurs' Europa League game against Basel on Thursday with an ankle injury, and it was initially feared that his season could have been brought to a premature end.
There was positive news on Friday as scans revealed that Bale should be back in training in a fortnight, although Tottenham will have to cope without him against Everton on Sunday.
Dembele has faith in the rest of the squad, though, saying: "Can we make the top four without Gaz? Yes, of course we can.
"There are other good players who play well. He has been very important for us but other players have to step up now."
Dembele admits it is a blow to be without Aaron Lennon as well as Bale, with the England winger also expected to be back in a couple of weeks after picking up an injury against Basel.
"Everybody knows they are two very important players for us so it's another big disappointment," said Dembele.

"But I think we have a big, good squad and we have to concentrate on beating Everton now."
Belgian midfielder Dembele is backing his former Fulham team-mate Clint Dempsey as one of the players who can make a vital contribution for the final few weeks of the season.
He said: "I remember from my time at Fulham he was very important so I know what he can do.
"He can score important goals as well. He has just come back from injury but before that he was showing some good form.
"That's the reason I have confidence - but there are other players as well."
    ----------------------

Why does he sound like a team coach? Or is he just being humble?
It seems, in this statement, like he is hiding again!
Moussa, come on mate, don't just back 'Dempsey and some other good players' to step up, back yourself, you are on the pitch!

Defoe is the old soft Spurs:  All talent and no drive/mentality to work on his game.  It's all a bit of a laugh for players like Defoe:  I mean Harry banned nightclubs because players like him were out at all hours partying it up every night and what did Defoe do?  He built his own nighclub in his house!

We need to sweep that mentality out of the club.  Parker recently got injured long term and what did he do?  Take a vacation?  No:  He took his coaching badges.  I know what type of player I would rather be in the trenches with.

My thinking is that this season was a tester for AVB by Levy. If he could hold his own after losing Modric and Rafa, with the shit of the Chelsea sacking and the media screaming for his scalp. If we could get 6th or higher. If AVB came through with what he proposed in his interview. Then, I reckon, Levy said he would put his hand in his pocket. Sure, it is frustrating, how many seasons for a decent striker?
IMO 'Arry wasn't a long termer for the club and now Levy knows he has the right man AVB.
So deadley, I believe this will be the transfer summer we've been waiting for!
