Ok ok. So all agree Fazio is poor and is our last choice for CB again this season, if ever. Good news is that Wimmer looked good, Trippier was ok, Rose was definitely strong and Eriksen got 90 mins in the tank. I just want some positives from an otherwise depressing night.

He looked poor on TV. Besides the nervousness and aimless passing, he also seems to be a tall player who isn't very good at heading. Question - how did Wimmer look live? Verts and Toby will need support at some point, not sure Dier will be allowed back there after strong performances in midfield!

    LC: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Arsenal

Eriksen is well short of match fitness. As his fitness builds, so will his form. Although it is so annoying to lose to Arsenal, it was good to see Eriksen, Rose, Trippier and to a lesser extent Wimmer get pitch time. That was the only positive for me last night. All will be needed in the Prem this season if we are to have any chance of doing well.

Dier Mason and Verts very good today.

Quality move and effort by Mason. Let's hold on for a very ugly win

So today I've read we're in for Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Mirallas, Yevhen Konoplyanka and Victor Moses! Anyone else? IF this is not a load of bollox, I would actually welcome all of them at Spurs, but if we are buying more midfielders we absolutely need to shift some players out!

Well Heung-Min Son should be full of confidence after scoring a hat trick for S Korea. The Laos defence is probably better than the Sunderland one - Kaboul plays there after all.

As this the 1000th post on a thread I started, I'm going to say something positive! We now have a full squad of players who want to be at Spurs. No greedy mercanaries, no rumblings of discontent, we are a united team full of young, hungry players. We all wish we'd signed another 'proven' striker and maybe a DM, but we go with what we have and give our support to N'Jie, Son, Kane, Alli, Dier and the rest. For the first time in a while we also look more of a threat at corners, and that's without Eriksen being involved in set pieces yet. With pace and movement more goals will come. Let's hope our lads involved in the European qualifiers come back healthy and confident. Then we go on to smash Sunderland and kickstart the season. COYS

You've nailed it Alonso. I've been saying the same thing in other posts. Way too much negativity on these forums, based on what was a decent transfer window.

What would the club 'backing us up' have looked like? Keeping our best players in the face of interest from other clubs? Selling or loaning out most of the superfluous fringe players who did nothing for us? Bringing in some new signings to strengthen weaker areas like defence and attack? Utilising our academy players and bringing talented youth into the squad? Focusing on the future with the development of a superb stadium? We have done all those things! I guess you mean we have to sign a proven top striker. Hopefully we will get one. But if not then this is still a better transfer window for me than recent seasons.

I could curl out a huge loose turd on the training pitch and we could call that a replacement? Sorry, but he is a total shit.

Agree - very impressed by Dier so far. He's been like a new signing really. Liked him in defence last season, but he looks at home in front of the back four. A young versatile English talent who will be a big part of the squad this season.

Keeping Kane and Lloris, and to a lesser extent Eriksen, Rose and Vertonghen. That's five more. Also - superb academy with production line of quality players and a fantastic new stadium in the works. That's a few more. All of which make me happy and proud to be a Spurs fan, regardless of whether we sign anyone in the next few hours.

In terms of other teams, I do agree some look to have progressed 'on paper' with their signings, but let's see if that actually translates into points and league positions in the long-term! We've been a solid 'Top 6' side now for several years, I can't see why we'd suddenly deteriorate into a complete shambles. We will be up there again, even more likely if the league is more competitive with teams such as Palace, Leicester and Swansea playing positively and taking points off our rivals. It's early days and if we'd only taken some chances we'd be up toward the top already, praising our start rather than worrying too much about our imbalanced squad or what happens if/when Kane gets injured or goes through a bad spell. Let's hope N'Jie and Son can be different from the other existing Spurs players you mentioned. They both seem to have an eye for goal in open play - which Lennon, Townsend, Lamela and Soldado clearly lack. I know Chadli chips in quite often, but he's really our only other consistent threat, outside of Kane/Eriksen. I do totally agree that a proven support striker for Kane would be ideal. Fingers cross we find someone suitable, unless Poch actually plans to use either N'Jie or Son there?

I disagree and I don't get the pessimism. We've definitely strengthened in defence, retained all our key players (Kane, Lloris, Rose, Eriksen, Verts), cleared some deadwood who contributed so little over past seasons and we've already bought two new forwards who should inject pace, dynamism and goals upfront. Our academy players from last season are a year older/wiser and we've also bought or re-introduced some other talented younger players into the first team squad - so the trees are surely planted? Do I want another signing? Yes, that would be great. Are we a going to be a mid-table mediocre mess without one? No. COYS

Martial for £36m is an utter joke though. Man U having the same issue we are - desperate and paying over the odds at a late stage. The difference is they have the cash and we can't, or won't, pay the inflated fees. N'Jie and Son had better be good!

    Latest rumours

Poch isn't everyone's ideal manager at Spurs, but I'm glad we missed out on Van Gaal. He seems to have a very short-term attitude, paying stupid money for players, no apparent focus at all on young talent. We might lose something in translation but unlike other foreign managers he seems to have no charm or charisma at all. Perfect for the Mancs!

    Latest rumours

Reportedly they've bid £37m for the 19 year old. Utterly ridiculous money. I'd much rather invest that in the stadium/academy and develop more quality young players of our own.

    PL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Everton

Good post. As per my comment earlier, if you give this side some pace upfront with players who are prepared to run behind defenders into space we will be a completely different side. Let's hope N'Jie, Son or Pritchard can give us an extra dimension. The positive is a clean sheet with a decent defensive performance. But we didn't really have a spark today and it's disappointing.

    PL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Everton

If you add some pace up front into this team (N'Jie or Son?) with players running behind defenders we will be a completely different side.

    PL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Everton

Does N'Jie need international clearance or something? Let's at least hope we see something of Alli, Carroll, Trippier or Pritchard today, give Lamela a week off to finalise his transfer...

    PL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Everton

Just so strange. Get N'Jie in at right wing to start a home game. Give him and Spurs a huge boost. It's so obviously not Dembele's best position. Mason behind Kane? Err WTF?

    PL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Everton

Just seen the teams. I'd have liked N'Jie to have at least been on the bench. Why do we buy these players then not let them play? Just seems bizarre.

    Dele Alli

I agree with some of your post but IMO the last thing we need right now is a new manager! Give Poch and his staff time. We are currently spending millions on a first class new stadium. We have a superb academy creating some quality young players with more to come, some of whom are in the squad this season and will certainly given pitch time. The reality is we do need to be relatively frugal for a few seasons - we can't keep buying dross over-priced mercenary players, who are the same players who chiefly under performed. Let our current Coach select the players he wants, let him get the best out of a young and talented squad that is actually shaped under his guidance. Give him a chance to see if his methods work. Absolutely no point in starting again with someone else.
