Three clean sheets in a row

Recommended Posts

I didn't realize this, but reading Michael Cox's piece on The Athletic, Spurs are currently working the longest run of clean sheets in the Premier League this season at 3. (Hopefully 4 soon!)

The bulk of the article, which you can find here, focuses on the central midfielders and how Jose used them in the City and Chelsea games. Sissoko and Hojbjerg were dropping almost between the center back and the full back on their side in turns, to control whomever is running into that channel so it's almost like a back 6.

This worked better in the first half because Ndombele was doing a good job of taking up the slack higher up (and even Son at times). In the second half Lo Celso strayed toward the ball in one situation when he should have stuck with Mount which led to Mount's shot and Chelsea's best chance.

But on balance we just played Jesus, De Bruyne, Abraham, and Werner and none scored.

It seems to be working. Reguilon's been good, Aurier is not a liability. Jose has things SO much better on defense.
