Dempsey tipped to leave Spurs within 24 hours

Clint Dempsey could be announced as a Seattle Sounders player within the next 24 hours accoring to ESPN.

The Tottenham player had already been spotted at San Francisco airport waiting to board a flight to Seattle, which adds fuel to the story. Especially when you’d imagine him to be with the rest of the Spurs squad for the away friendly in Monaco.

ESPN cited two anonymous sources in the Sounders office, one of whom told reporter Doug McIntyre, “But let’s put it this way: I’m not surprised I’m receiving a call.”

With the arrival of Roberto Soldado and speculation that AVB’s transfer dealings are not over for the current transfer window, it could be a case of Levy balancing the books by allowing Dempsey to return to the MLS. Rumours had also linked Dempsey with a move to Everton, who are currently in the States on a pre-season tour.

He joined last August for a £6million fee from Fulham on a three-year contract.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Best bit of news I have received all summer! Decent player, but for the ambitions the club clearly has, decent is just no longer good enough.

The amount of times Spurs would have the the ball in advanced areas of the field only for Clint to waste it with a speculative 30/40 yard drive, which lacked little or no conviction, beggared belief!

It's clear to me that Dempsey is at his very best when he is the BIG FISH in whichever team he is representing, and as that was never going to be the case at Spurs, I think the decision to let him move on is the best for all concerned.

If any potential transfer does come to fruition, I will wish Clint Dempsey all the best for the future!

  2. I think dempsey was extremely underrated. He was the 3rd leading scorer on the club and played out of position most of the season. He also came in late with no preseason work. He was a value and will certainly be missed.

  3. Totally agree, very underated player and one of the few players ala Bale who could score in big matches when it really mattered.
