Agent squashes Dempsey Spurs exit rumours

There has been a lot of speculation that Clint Dempsey could be surplus to requirements at Tottenham this summer, but like many internet rumours this could also be false.

Various sites and newspapers have claimed that Spurs would be looking to move Dempsey on to pastures new, with AVB looking to overhaul his striking options. Depending on what you read, as recent as Sunday morning it was being claimed that West Brom were hugely interested in the American international and talks were about to begin.

Deuce’s agent has now gone public and stated that Dempsey is not being shopped around and will be present for Tottenham’s trip to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks for the Barclays Asia Trophy.

Jermain Defoe is another Spurs forward who has been linked with a N17 exit, but he is also expected to remain in AVB’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

“I have been in constant contact with Tottenham and they are happy with Clint and he’s happy with the club,” Lyle Yorks, Dempsey’s agent, told SBI.

“He’s reporting back shortly. He’ll be back there and will be in Hong Kong (for pre-season) and everything’s good.

“There have been no meetings and no discussions. Not with Tottenham or with any other teams about Clint”

“His focus right now is returning to the team and helping them qualify for Champions League.”

So there you have it. Clint Dempsey is looking likely that he’ll be a Tottenham player for the foreseeable future.

  1. This story becomes irrelevant when you consider that Clint Dempsey is NOT one of the clubs 'indispensable' assets… If the bid is big enough (£8m -£10m, I imagine), Levy WILL accept, despite how much contact the Americans agent has had with the club!

  2. GOOD! Hardworking and scored some crucial goals for us last season. Keep Dempsey and Defoe and ship out Ade, to free up wages for bales new bumper contract.

    • Agreed, also Clint will be a major factor in selling Spurs in the States, with NBC having secured the rights to EPL "soccer".

  3. NBC has featured Bale and Tottenham so prominently in its advertisements for EPL football, it makes me think they've been assured that both Bale and Dempsey will be on the team next year.

  4. He cost the club 6m quid, easily doubled that amount for the club in shirt sale profits. He has grown spurs presence for children in England that are fans of him from London to Merseyside. Grown the support for spurs ten fold in the states. Then through no preseason, having his first goal incorrectly ruled offside against Lazio, setting up countless chances for adecantscore and Jermaine to fluff…he goes on to net the winner and equalizer against the manc scum. He has been in great form for the US, with a full preseason he has every chance to contribute a 20+ goal season like he did just two terms ago.

  5. Agreed with your opinion Yid. Get rid of Ade & get Benteke at the asking price cos he's a proven striker in the league.

  6. Dempsey is good enough to play in any team in any league, AVB messed up last season , he had no excuse loosing to or drawing with relegation bound teams… hence ., like his predecessor, showed his mediocrity, the only excuse or saving grace was that mr levy greedily didn’t pay for a top class striker,, this time around there can be no more excuses and he must know that like at Chelsea , in the premier league points hull don’t count, only winning the league count s. Or qualifying in 3rd place for the champions league. Even 4th place don’t count…If 5th wins the champ league.
