Gareth Bale statement

Gareth Bale has released a statement after leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Real Madrid.

The statement from the club’s official site, read: “I have had six very happy years at Tottenham but it’s the right time to say goodbye. We’ve had some special times together over the years and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“I would like to thank everyone at the Club, the Chairman, Board, staff, coaches and players – and most of all the fantastic fans who I hope will understand this amazing career opportunity.

“I am not sure there is ever a good time to leave a club where I felt settled and was playing the best football of my career to date. I know many players talk of their desire to join the club of their boyhood dreams, but I can honestly say, this is my dream come true.

“I am well aware that I would not be at the level I am today were it not for firstly Southampton and then Spurs standing by me during some of the tougher times and affording me the environment and support they have.

“Tottenham will always be in my heart and I’m sure that this season will be a successful one for them. I am now looking forward to the next exciting chapter in my life, playing football for Real Madrid.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Less of what we want to hear, more of the truth. Gareth' s boyhood choice….really? Agents till eyes ringing up the commission more like. Will miss him as he is a genuine talent but the best we have ever had………really?!!

Might be the architect of or next successes through greed rather than design

  2. Today's team selection is the worst I have ever seen. Not a single creative midfielder. Why not use Carroll or Holtby? Very poor management by AVB. Bale got him out of trouble last season in so many games. Now he has to step up to management. Picking 3 donkeys in midfield was a nightmare to watch being outplayed by Arsenal's skilful football. Spurs are not Stoke so lets hope Eriksen, Holtby and Carroll replace this terrible midfield asap.

  3. we are going to miss him 'till we get a settled side, but we'll be o'k.these players are different class by a mile to what we've had for many years.
