Lawro predicts Spurs to beat Cardiff

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will beat Cardiff City.

AVB’s side travel to the Welsh capital on Sunday to take on the Premier League newcomers and will be looking to come away with all three points to build on our good start to the season.

Lawro told BBC Sport Online: ” I don’t think Tottenham’s Europa League game at home to Tromso on Thursday will affect them too much. I had to laugh when I heard Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas saying this week that the fixture list is killing them – it is only mid-September!

“How many players has he signed in the summer? I’m sorry, but if you want to be a top-four team in the Premier League and you want to be a power across Europe, then you have to play in these midweek competitions. This is what it is all about.

“Players want to play games, they enjoy it. It means they are not training, which can be drudgery.

“Cardiff have made a decent start to life in the top flight but I fancy Spurs to nick the three points here.

“I thought Tottenham were very good last week in their win over Norwich – they could have won even more easily than they did. Christian Eriksen did very well and the balance and the dynamic of the team was good.

“I just hope the Bluebirds’ owner Vincent Tan lets Malky Mackay get on with his job even if he loses two or three games on the spin, because he has got a good manager there.

“Prediction: 0-2.”

  1. That’s that one screwed up then. If “Lawro” backs you to win, it’s a sure fire thing that you’ll lose. That’s why I love it that he usually backs us to get beaten. If we do win I can only see it being by a narrow 0-1. Cardiff showed they’re gonna be a tough ask when they came back against City. I hope Lamela and Eriksen get another run out. The more games they play, the quicker they’ll be up to speed. I guess Soldado will replace JD for this one. I know he scored a couple in the Europa t’other night but that was against a team that’s struggling in a poor league. Defoe tends to score his total for the season in a group of games, rather than spread across the season and like Lamela and Eriksen, Soldado needs to play as often as possible to get up to speed.
