Bale and Defoe on target in first pre-season win for Spurs

Tottenham have begun their pre-season with a 3-2 victory against League One outfit Brentford.

The game took place “behind closed doors” at the Tottenham training ground and is the second year in a row which we have faced the Bees in the build up to the new season.

French midfielder Nabil Bentaleb featured during the first half and it wasn’t any surprise to hear that Gareth Bale was once again on the score sheet, however the visitors battled back to take a 2-1 advantage into the break.

AVB changed all eleven players for the second half and it’s great to see that Younes Kaboul featured in the friendly alongside Jan Vertonghen, especially as many expect the pair to be our first-choice central defensive partnership.

Jermain Defoe had his goalscoring boots on and scored both goals in the second half to give us a 3-2 win against Uwe Rosler’s side.

Spurs 1st half team: Friedel, Naughton, Dawson, Caulker, Rose; Mason, Huddlestone, Bentaleb; Lennon, Bale, Obika

Spurs 2nd half team: Archer, Smith, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Stewart; Parker, Carroll, Sigurdsson; Townsend, Defoe, Ceballos

  1. Seem to remember a behind closed doors match in 1963 – Spurs lost 6-2 to their own reserves I think ! Was quite hush-hush in those days, but news leaked out, and it was mentioned in passing by some reporters.

  2. Peter – in te same way Man City just be thrashing Supersport Utd in S.Africa or Utf should be thrashing that team out in Asia? Pre-season doesn’t work like that and any win is a bonus on top of players building fitness and no injuries… In fact I would take any win against them in a cup, league 1 maybe – but doesn’t make them mugs who will stand around and watch you thump them… If anything they will be up for it to prove they can cope against top clubs… Great we can field 2 different 11s (with some still out injured) and still come away with a win… Good job boys…

  3. lol I have every confidence in the players squad needs improving replace older mediocre boys WANT MORE GOALS! …under armor shirt ok except for the blob! logo hewlett packard better understated smart! worn more.

  4. Brentford are a first division club. A good one at that. Why would a second string (or 2 second string teams) thrash them 6-0 in a pre season??? What an arrogant moron.
