Less Stick or Twist – More Double or Nothing

In the past it’s been about whether we sell a player or not and who we might bring in to replace him – the standard stick or twist. Gareth Bale’s visage on the front of FIFA 14 leads me to think he’s staying. So we’ve decided to stick.

Time for a new game.

I wrote an article last week on why I was still waiting for a Tottenham statement of intent – and I stick by that – even with the potentially imminent signing of Benteke (I don’t rate him as highly as some but) I’m definitely pleased we’re doing early transfer window business. What I want to address is the need to have two quality players in each position – this is what I think will put us much more toward title contenders in the upcoming seasons.

So – Double or Nothing

In the last week (the transfer pages of the papers love Spurs don’t they?) I’ve seen rumours of Adebayor leaving for Besiktas, Dempsey linked with West Brom and Defoe linked with a revival of his partnership with Crouch. So we have to ask the question who’s going to leave and if we get Benteke – who’s first choice and who will back him up?

Without listing every position and player we have cover for the midfield three in Sigurdsson and Holtby, left back is interesting as we don’t know about BAE and Rose quite yet, we’ve even got Townsend now who can do a job on the wings. Add to that names being thrown around like Nacer Chadli and we are getting the elusive depth in the team. And when I say depth I mean swap a good player with a good player – not keep your fingers crossed that they’ll pass a late fitness test.

So I’m throwing the question out to fellow Spurs fans – who would you see as the double for Benteke if we get him? Would it be a like-for-like or a Plan B type of striker? Who would you prefer at left back BAE or Rose?

And what other positions do you think we might need to strengthen? How close do you think we are to having two players for every position? I’d like to hear your thoughts on ins and outs – we started early in the window we have lots of time left… don’t we?
