Planning without Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is out for 4 to 6 weeks according to Danish Head Coach Morten Olsen.

This is absolutely horrible news from the International friendly between Denmark and Norway. Of all our summer signings Eriksen is the one that excites me the most and although we haven’t seen him play to his full potential yet there have been glimpses of what he is capable of. These glimpses have included the superb display against Norwich, the stunning goal in Europe and being the creative force behind the array of chances that were forged against Newcastle.

He had missed a few games in favor of Holtby after a dire performance against West Ham and I do like Holtby, but is he the answer in the upcoming games, which include big match ups against both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Southampton.

This should be the time that AVB finally gives Lamela a good run of games and a chance to show us what we paid 30 million for. Whether he employs him on the wing or behind the striker I don’t really care but lets get him in. He obviously has the ability to create and score so lets see him do that.

With Chadli and Lennon returning to fitness, the emergence of Townsend, the heart and effort of Holtby and Siggy’s goals we have options to play alongside Lamela in those attacking positions. What is the best combination though?

We have stuttered recently and some of our own have turned against AVB, although it is only a noisy minority. AVB now has a chance to prove some doubters wrong by picking the right team and playing the right tactics to get results in these big games.

It would be easier with Eriksen but with the squad we have and still being right in the mix in all competitions, there is still reason for optimism. After all optimism is what has got me through the last 37 years of supporting Spurs, so why stop now…..
