Tottenham Player Ratings vs Tromso

The Lilywhites coasted to a comfortable European victory at White Hart Lane as a brace from Jermain Defoe (He’s Yiddo), together with a sublime first strike for Christian Eriksen, secured a win over Tromso. The Arctic Circle side offered virtually zero going forward and we had a pleasantly lethargic 90 minute training session in front of 36,000 surprisingly calm fans.

Hugo Lloris – 6 – Had absolutely nothing to do. We have now only conceded one goal in 850 minutes of competitive football.

Kyle Naughton – 6 – Defensively sound on the basis that he was never troubled, didn’t offer too much going forward though.

Michael Dawson – 6 – Solid but barely tested. Overcommitted and let the Tromso midfielder run past him on one occasion but never mind!

Younes Kaboul – 7 – Very solid and looked purposeful when taking the ball out of defence. Great to see one of our many beasts returning to full fitness.

Danny Rose 6 – Looked surprisingly dangerous going forward until he went off injured. Didn’t look too serious though.

Sandro – 8 – The beast is back and it was a characteristic display for the Brazilian, anchoring our midfield and stopping Tromso from seeing the ball in their offensive third.

Mousa Dembele – 6 – He needs to move the ball quicker in this type of game! But in fairness, he kept the tempo steady and we got the job done comfortably.

Erik Lamela – 7 – Showed snapshots of brilliance without seeing too much of the ball. I wish he had shot more but it was an extremely promising first foray into English football.

Lewis Holtby – 7 – Made key contributions to both of Defoe’s goals although he could have displayed his creative talents a little more against such poor opposition.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 7 – Played with immense confidence throughout and looked dangerous without ever displaying the killer instinct.

Jermain Defoe – 8 – Took his two goals very well but he will feel like he could and should have filled his boots last night.

Substitutes:

Jan Vertonghen – 6 – Solid when he came on and linked up well down the left flank.

Christian Eriksen – 7 – Looked lively when he came on and took his goal exceptionally well; hopefully he can do similarly in the league.

Paulinho – 6 – Played tidily and his performance can be described as polished.
