Waiting for the dust to settle…

The merry-go-round has stopped. Some people got on. Some people got off. We’re done. Barring injuries I don’t think we’re going to get anyone in January unless something goes majorly awry – and it won’t.

I’ll be the first to admit it. I got a little greedy. I wanted another big name signing. I thought we had another deadline day masterpiece waiting to happen, the ace up our sleeve, the rabbit out of the hat – call it what you will. After a transfer window where I was praising our early and quite frankly marvelous transfer business, I suddenly reverted to watching Natalie Sawyer (yes not Jim White) on Sky Sports News expecting to show our training ground with some big news.

Harry leaning out of his car window it wasn’t. I should be glad. We managed to sell one player and buy half a team. So now everyone has precisely three statements to make:

1. Spurs won’t be as good without Bale
2. It’ll take longer than a season for all of these players to adapt to the league/gel as a team
3. Anything less than a title challenge would be a failure and AVB will be sacked

I’m a Spurs fan, I know optimism comes with the territory. But for the first time I am not so much optimistic as realistic – I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. Are we going to be as good as I think we can be? Will the players I’ve watched go on to set the league alight? If Soldado gets injured are we back to Defoe and Adebayor again?

I don’t know. I’m waiting for the dust to settle. I’m waiting for all the players to have trained together. I’m waiting for Kaboul and Sandro to be regular first team starters. I want to see how Rose does at left back. I’m waiting and I’m curious. I think it’s going to be exciting whatever happens.

So do you share my realism or are you still optimistic? How do you think we’ll perform and how long will it take? I’d love to hear your comments below…
