Post match reaction following Tottenham Hotspurs’ 3-0 win on the night and 8-0 aggregate victory over Dinamo Tbilisi in the play-off round of the Europa League on Thursday night in London.

AVB spoke on everything from Tommy Carroll’s performance to the upcoming North London derby against Arsenal.

Andre Villas-Boas, Tottenham Hotspur coach: (on victory over Dinamo Tiblisi): “Yeah, good performance I think from our midfield. Very, very active in slotting those passes through – Tommy (Thomas Carroll) and (Lewis) Holtby – so it was good to see them out there, two wonderfully gifted players. I think it was a very good overall performance by everybody. It was very easy to be complacent today and I think we weren’t. You know, we assumed the responsibility, kept our professionalism and achieved the qualification, which was what we wanted.”

(On the efforts to build a strong squad at Spurs) “Yeah, I think so, yeah. It’s a great squad that we are putting together, great competition for places, you know we all agree that last year, towards the later stages of the competitions we were struggling a little bit with injuries and we want this year to be a year where we have full strength and are able to compete for all competitions.”

(On the upcoming London derby at Arsenal) “I think both teams are very, very strong. Arsenal, because they are a side that have been built together for these last years and without having new faces, they don’t have to worry about building something, it’s already in there, the Arsenal way of playing, and we have lots of new faces and we still have to build our own style of play.”

(On the transfer situation regarding Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches) “Yeah, at the moment, we can’t confirm that the deal (to sign Steaua Bucharest defender Vlad Chiriches), the player has obviously landed in London. That doesn’t mean anything these days (laughter), so we are… he is an interesting player that is being followed by lots of teams, hopefully he can join the right club.”
