Steaua owner pulls plug on Chiriches deal

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Steaua Bucharest central defender Vlad Chiriches look to be in doubt.

Yesterday we reported that the Romanian international was on his way to the Lane for around £6.9million – however this now looks not to be the case after reports from his homeland claim that Spurs wanted to speed up the deal (probably due to the impending sale of Steven Caulker to Cardiff City) and Steau wanted an extra day with the player.

Apparently Steau owner, George Becali, a controversial Romanian politician and businessman who was was sentenced to 3 years in prison in May got wind of this development and has pulled the plug on the deal

  1. Crazy eastern Europeans. He's got wind that we're about to get 85 mil from Madrid and wants a bigger slice of the pie. for the sake of one day let him stay a while or better still, Keep Caulker

  2. Not sure I'm buying this one! Everywhere else is saying the deal is as good as done, which seems to link in with the news that the club has just sold Caulker…I imagine Vlad is probably at Heathrow as we speak!!!

  3. Chiriches is a world class defender. His misfortune is that he was born Roman, otherwise its value would be much higher. A transfer to regret;)

  4. The deal is off because Levy demanded the player to arrive today, instead on 7th of august as it was agreed a couple of days ago. BTW Neil, it's STEAUA, get it right mate because this club is, after all, a former European Champion, something The Spurs can only dream about right now.

  5. i hope the transfer is off,his too good for spurs, and for 7 mil to cheap they ar seling him his a world clas defender who plays, mid center, center back, center right
