£15million signing happy to remain a Spur

Fernando Llorente has revealed that he wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this season after learning to adapt as Harry Kane’s understudy.

The former Spanish striker joined last summer from Swansea City for £15million but failed to make an impact during his first season in a Spurs shirt.

Llorente, 33, has been linked with a move away from the club on numerous occasions over the course of the summer and has come to accept his role as a bit-part player in the shadow of Kane.
With Kane still resting following his involvement at the World Cup, Llorente has enjoyed the prospect of getting minutes under his belt during the tour of the USA. An injury to young star Kaziah Sterling has meant that he has been our only out and out attacker.

His style of play is different to what fans typically expect, he is a target man with limited mobility and isn’t going to be a player who is full of energy, pace and presses the opposition defence like Kane typically does.

‘It’s not easy but I know the situation,’ he told the Daily Mail. ‘Harry is an unbelievable player and he wants to play and always score two or three. It’s good for the team and I only have to be ready when my opportunity is coming.’

‘Last year I started with my arm broken and it was difficult for me,’ he said. ‘When I don’t play games, it’s difficult to be fit but I kept working every day to stay fit and now I am trying to get an opportunity to play games in pre-season. I feel very good.’

‘If they signed me last year it’s because they wanted someone like me, no?’ he added.

He is now looking to put last season behind him and has started the pre-season well after scoring two goals in our first pre-season outing against AS Roma in the International Champions Cup.

I feel very good here and I would like to help the team more than last year and try to score more goals,’ he continued

‘It’s difficult. When you don’t play every week, it’s difficult to be fit. But I’m trying to do my best.’

‘I feel very good physically,’ he said. ‘And I don’t have any problem. I’m 33 but I’m good.’
