£20m for Wimmer?

It wouldn’t be a Saturday without yet another Tottenham transfer rumour. This time it’s the turn of Kevin Wimmer.

The big Austrian defender, according to the Sun has been deemed surplus to requirements by the club but Tottenham want an astonishing £20million transfer fee.

Wimmer moved to White Hart Lane from German outfit Cologne two years ago for £4.3million, just under a quarter of what the paper now claims that Levy and co expect. The report ironically states that there has been no interest in the player as of yet.

The 24-year-old has found himself behind the likes of Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier in the defensive pecking order, which has seen him start just 13 times in the Premier League during his time at the club.

When Vertonghen got injured towards the end of the season a couple of campaigns ago, it has to be said that Wimmer filled the void brilliantly at that stage but is never going to be able to oust Vertonghen/Toby – then again, who could?

It all depends on whether Wimmer at 24, wants regular first-team football or whether he’s content on being a squad player.
