Spurs boss speaks on the chances of duo facing Dortmund

Mauricio Pochettino has provided fitness updates on the midfield pair of Eric Dier and Harry Winks ahead of this evening’s clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Both players have travelled to Germany with the Spurs squad for the second leg of the round of sixteen tie.

Dier has missed a considerable amount of game time this season, notably with appendicitis and more recently due to a bout of tonsillitis.

Winks was absent for Saturday’s North London derby against Arsenal due to a hip injury and was replaced in the starting line up by Victor Wanyama.

Mauricio Pochettino has ruled out the prospect of Dier starting the match due to his lack of game time in recent months and will make a decision of whether he will be named among the substitutes.

The Spurs manager cast his eye over the pair in last night’s training session under the lights at the Westenfalenstadion.

He told Football.London: “We need to assess both. They are here because still we need one day more to assess if they’re going to arrive. I don’t know.

“Dier has been a lot of time without playing. We’ll see if he can be on the bench, don’t believe he can start. Harry Winks the same. We need to assess after this afternoon, after training how he feels tomorrow.”
