Ajax keen to keep reported Spurs target at the club

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has stressed that they want to keep Donny Van De Beek at the club next season.

The midfielder has caught the eye during Ajax’s impressive Champions League campaign which saw them reach the semi final of the competition before losing to Tottenham Hotspur on away goals.

The 22-year-old is being monitored by Spurs as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, although they will have to compete with some of Europe’s top clubs including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (Daily Mail).

Ajax are reported to be readying a new contract to reward him for his displays having only signed a new two-year extension in January (Voetbalzone).

Van de Beek through the academy at Ajax and has made over 50 appearances in all competitions, including scoring the only goal of the game when Ajax won 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first leg of the semi final.

Overmars, who played for Arsenal during his career told De Telegraaf: “He has really improved as a footballer and we don’t want to lose him”,

“He has been improving and we want to reward him for this”.
