Alderweireld replacement lined up by Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur will potentially raid Toby Alderweireld’s former club to sign his replacement.

Alderweireld is expected to leave Tottenham this summer after failing to agree a new contract extension with the club, with some reports claiming the Belgian is demanding over £150,000-a-week.

Mauricio Pochettino has targeted Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt as a long-term replacement and is valued at around £45million by the Dutch club.

At 18, de Ligt has already made over 50 appearances for the former European champions and is also on the radar of Arsenal and Barcelona.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Tottenham have raided Ajax, having already signed de Ligt’s former defensive team-mate Davinson Sanchez last summer for £42million. Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen also arrived at Spurs from the Amsterdam outfit.

There has also been speculation in the press that Alderweireld is a target for Chelsea. We would be absolutely crazy to sell him to a Premier League rival. If he leaves, he needs to be shipped off to a foreign club.
