Alnwick finally leaves Spurs

Hide and seek champion Ben Alnwick has left Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer to sign for Barnsley.

The 25-year-old had been with Tottenham since early 2007 when he moved from Sunderland in a £900,000 deal and only managed a sprinkling of senior appearance for Spurs including in a League Cup semi-final second leg defeat to Burnley – thankfully we won 6-4 on aggregate.

IrishSpur and IanB also rightly mention he played for us against Man Utd.

He had loan spells at Luton, Leicester, Carlisle, Norwich, Leeds, Doncaster and Leyton Orient during his time as a Spurs player and will now try and gain regular football with the Tykes after penning a two-year deal.

In all fairness, the majority of Spurs fans felt that Alnwick should have moved on years ago rather than be our fifth choice keeper!
