Cissokho rumours reappear

One player we have been linked with for a number of seasons is Lyon defender Aly Cissokho.

There’s no doubt that Benoit Assou-Ekotto is cemented as our number one left-back, but do Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton provide enough quality cover? It remains to be seen what the plans are for Naughton this campaign, the former Sheffield United player spent last term on loan at Norwich City.

Anyhow, the Cissokho rumours have popped their head back up today after Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said the Serie A side are not interested in the 24-year-old.

“On the left side, we have considered many solutions before Balzaretti,” De Laurentiis is quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Cissokho is not one of these solutions.”

Hopefully Levy and AVB are focusing first on bringing in another top quality forward ahead of the Newcastle match.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Benny has cemented his position as our number one left back? Not for me, he is a weak link in our defence and the sooner we get a better first choice left bac the better we will be

    • Agreed. Going forward he's fine, defensively he's very weak and I don't understand how people can't see it. His attempt at defending is standing 2 metres away from the player and sticking his leg up as they're about to cross, hoping to block it. He's also been caught out of position a few too many times.

Only thing is, solid left backs who can attack and defend are hard to come across.

  2. I don't agree, Benoit has been amazing for us, passing is great and can score. Yes he makes the odd mistake even Ledley has done that leading to a goal against us plus how many times has Dawson given away penalties with his "handball" or tough tackles. Nah.. Benoit is the real job for us.

  3. Also don't forget the poor guy gets little or no cover from Bale. We do however need competition in that area so maybe that's what AVB is looking at. Wonder if he can play as a striker lol.

  4. BAE is a great footballing LB but he is a liability. I’d be tempted to only play him in the easier games at WHL and have someone more solid and dependable for away games. If not, just cash in on him. Crowd favourite, but still can’t even defend basics like preventing a cross coming in.
