“It is up to Tottenham. He will want to play”

Andros Townsend has proved that he has the ability to cut it in the Premier League according to Harry Redknapp.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger has been on loan at QPR since January and has been their best performer in a disappointing season. Redknapp knew of the talents of Townsend during his time in charge at Spurs and Townsend has stepped up to the plate and has a lot of Spurs fans relishing his return to the Lane.

Townsend, 21, caught the eye again in QPR’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend. We all know that his chances with us are limited due to the stellar form of both Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale this season, but there have been occasions when either one or both have been injured and the lack of width has been there for all to see.

“He’ll be a top player,” Redknapp told the press.

“He gets at people, he attacks you. They paid £10m for the left-back and he has ripped him apart.

“He is relentless. He just runs at you, runs at you, runs at you. He has been first-class.

“It’s difficult for him back at Spurs. You’ve got (Aaron) Lennon and (Gareth) Bale there, so it will be hard for him to play regularly. He’ll have his work cut out.

“But he’ll be a good player for Spurs next year. He will go back there a better player.

“He has proved to himself what he can do. He has proved he can play in the Premier League.”

The question is, will Townsend settle for a bit-part role at Tottenham next season after tasting regular first-team football in the top-flight? There is no question he is a talent that we have hold on to.

He added: “It is up to Tottenham. He will want to play.

“He is good enough to play somewhere. And he has proved he can do that.

“I’ve played him off the right, whereas they played him off the left all the time. I think the right suits him.

“He comes in off the right and can get shots in. I think it’s a move that suits him.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I believe the last game townsend played for spurs he was on the right and lennon went to the left and townsend drew a foul which we scored off the resulting corner so jog on harry have fun in the championship

  2. Harry doesnt half talk a load of rubbish. Harry never pkayed Townsend out of the europa leGue at Spurs, and only took him on loan from spurs after a few good performances ON THE RIGHT under AVB (Townsend actually won a free kick playing from the right which I bale scored from). Now Harry is trying to take the credit for playing him on the right. Almost everytime I read something from redknapp hes either trying to take credit for something that wasnt his, or blaming someone else for something that was his own doing….

  3. Townsend is quality. We need him. Lennon out injured has shown to be a big piece missing especially now that Bale is going to be a AMC we need backup wingers. Plus Town can play on the left as well.

Furthermore, AVB should player Walker as a Winger and Naughton as a RB when Lennon is out. Also Rose should be rotated in more often next season.

    • Totally agree, Caulker and Carroll need more games too! Sell the nearly men and make use of these players, if they don't quite make it, then they will be worth more anyway as they will be experienced! COYS

  4. If this lad doesn’t play regularly next year I’ll go get my eyes checked because from what I’ve seen he will be a star for Tottenham and England! Runs at players all day long, can shoot with either foot from distance, has good vision for a winger, and works hard defensively among other things. Would happily slot him in at left midfield for us next year. Why spend when you have a young talent like Townsend for nothing!

    • dead right jack if we kept townsend when lennon and bale were out we wouldent be in the shit we are in now we let the wrong player go on loan we have an over supply of midfielders already sorry avb bed move
