Tottenham Hotspur have finally reached an agreement with Benoit Assou-Ekotto to cancel his contract.

The Cameroon international’s contract was due to expire in the summer and has not been a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans – at least we can now save some wages rather than paying Benny to sit on his arse.

The left-back joined Tottenham from Lens in 2006 and went on to make more than 200 appearances for the club.

However, the 30-year-old has not represented them since May 2013 and, having spent last season on loan at QPR, has been released from his contract at White Hart Lane.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. How will it "save some wages rather than paying Benny to sit on his arse"? Think about it. Spurs will have had to pay him his wages up until his contract expires. BAE will have got his wages in one lump sum. Spurs will not have gained anything financially, though they will get him off the books and out of WHL, which is a positive.
