Bassong: We must beat the best to qualify for Champions League

Sebastien Bassong believes that Tottenham Hotspur must look to beat those above them if they are to finish fourth.

Spurs face Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea in April as they look to secure a Champions League spot.

“We need to win this type of game. If we want to finish in the top four we have to beat Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United or Liverpool,” he told the Tottenham Journal. “If we can beat them, it will be a big step towards that Champions League, but if we can’t take points off them we don’t deserve to be in the top four because then we’re not at their level. We’ll see in April.

“If we finish in the top four it will be a great achievement because the club has not been in the Champions League. It will be a great thing and a start for the future at the club.

“Honestly, we can make it. We started the season well and I don’t think people expected that from us. Now, I think we have shown we have the ability to do it.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. The priority is not to beat the 3 teams above us,but to get 3 points each from those below us plus at least a draw from City away, which probably would be THE GAME. Pool,Villa,Everton were all done.

  2. Rubbish, they have to beat at least 2 of those 3 and must target the Arsenal/Chelsea home games for wins. We never win at Old Trafford so might as well scrap that one. Man City and Villa both have games in hand on us and we ideally have to beat City away as well. But we should have the atttitude to go out and win every game not cherry pick where our best games are for points.
