You’re the Boss: Pick your Spurs team vs West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur kick off our Premier League campaign at West Ham United on Saturday as we look to stop the minnows from releasing another DVD and t-shirt combo to their laughable following.

Both AVB and Tim Sherwood both lost their first games in charge of Tottenham, ironically Timmy lost 2-1 against West Ham. Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for a better result when he takes the reigns for his first meaningful match in charge of our beloved club.

If you were Pochettino, what would your Tottenham starting eleven be for the match at Upton Park? Here’s what we have come up with:-

Lloris

Naughton Kaboul Vertonghan Davies

Townsend Holtby Capoue Lamela

Eriksen

Adebayor

  1. Vertonghen is not match fit, so wont be picked. Pochettino does not pick a 4 4 2 formation like you selected. He will most probably go with 4 2 3 1. He will most probably play Townsend, Eriksen and Lamela behind Adebayor.

He hasn't tried Mason in the number 10 position where he scores tons of goals. I think he should play Mason behind Adebayor because he is our best creative player. I also think Cebellos is far more talented than Townsend, Lennon and Chadli so would play him on the left.

    Lloris

    Naughton Kaboul Dier Davies

    Capoue Holtby

    Eriksen Mason Cebellos

    Adebayor

  2. Lloris
    Naughton Kaboul Jan Davies

    Capoue. Holtby

    Lamela. Eriksen. Lennon

    Soldado/ade

  3. Lloris

    Naughton Kaboul Vertonghan Rose

    Eriksen Holtby Sandro Townsend

    Lamela

    Robbie

    Couple of changes for me:

1- Rose deserves to start ,at least the first couple of games anyway, and i'm all for new players having to earn the right to start in a new team- especially one like tottenham – u cant just come over from Swansea and walk into the spurs. no no!!

    2. sandro instead of capoue – i think sandro is fit now and if he can re-create his form from his 1st season then he is the 1st name on my team sheet imo as long as he can control his wild lunges

    3. andros -'HE PLAYS ON THE LEFT' – he's can use both feet , granted, but he's left footed and i feel he can be more creative and produce more goal scoring chances from the left wing rather than cutting in and smashing it into row z from the right

    4. robbie in for ade – i think robbie is more dynamic and can link up the fast attacking football much better than ade- plus he's worked hard all pre-season while ade has been kicking back with 'malaria' – is it a coincidence that ade has NEVER done a pre season since his arsenal days?!?! you tell me!!

    • When Sandro wins the ball, who does he pass to? If you watched the preseason games, Capoue was winning the ball and immediately snapping a pass forward, usually accurately, even while under pressure. Pochettino’s system is all about transitioning the play forward as quickly as possible. It is for this reason that he wants Scheiderlin, too. If he was playing a traditional ball winner/ball player style I would agree – sadly, given Sandro’s popularity, that often slows play up as the ball winner looks for the ball player. Or, even worse, when faced with high pressing, has to play the ball back or loses control of the ball altogether.

Sadly, I suspect that Sandro will be one of the players who makes way.

  4. …………….lloris………………

    ..naughton..kaboul.dier..Davies.

    ……………capoue…..holtby…….

    .lamela…..eriksen…Townsend.

    ………………ade………………

Like other have said give wc players a few weeks for fitness

  5. Lloris

Naughton Dier (Kaboul) Vertonghan Davies (Rose)

    Holtby Capoue ( ? )

    Townsend (Lennon) Eriksen Lamela

    Adebayor

My team choice, with the players in brackets are who i think will actually be picked.

I would throw 2 of the new boys in, although we lost to West Spam 3 times last season, they are not really much cop, its not like we are playing Man Citeh.

  6. Goalkeeper: Lloris- no need for any explanation here. Automatic starter and the best gk in the pl imo. 2nd to only neuer on a world wide front
Defence: Right Back: Naughton: Contrary to popular perception of Naughton being shit, I actually think he's decent cover for injured Walker. CBs If deemed 100 % fit Jan must partner Kaboul. If not Dier who impressed me on his debut should start unless if Daws or Vlad is fit. LB: A bit tricky, Rose has had the better pre season imo, but I'd start Davies as I feel he can deal with WHUFC's physicality better.
Midfield: DM: Capoue has had a great pre season and has to start for me, I rate him very highly and feel his physicality could be pivotal vs WHUFC. Alongside him I'd start Nabil unless if Mousa is 100%. Dont think Holtby vs WHUFC in midfield is a very good idea. I'm a big fan of bentaleb and think he could become world class, has all the qualities you want from a midfielder.
Attack: Albeit Holtby has been terrific all pre season, starting him and Eriksen in the same team vs WHUFC is tricky. Think Lamela may get bullied a bit vs WHUFC, so I'd start him wide right rather than as a no.10 where Eriksen could play. As for LW, it's between Andros and Azza. Feel Andros' directness could be key so I'd start him. Up front, I think Soldado could come good, but feel Ade is better suited to this game
    Lloris
    Naughton Kab Jan Davies
    Capoue Bentaleb
    Lamela Eriksen Andros
    Ade.
Give Holtby around 30 mins from the bench
