“Bro, thought you were my CB partner??” – Alderweireld send message to Vertonghen

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has taken to Twitter to give Jan Vertonghen some tongue in cheek praise for his display at Wembley last night.

Vertonghen was the standout performer in the Champions League victory against Borussia Dortmund which sees the North London side take a healthy 3-0 advantage into the second leg.

While Toby Alderweireld took up his usual central defensive position, Vertonghen filled the void at left wing back after Danny Rose and Ben Davies were both ruled out through injury.

Alderweireld joked on Twitter that he thought his compatriot was his centre back partner and questions why is he now playing on the left, before applauding his efforts.
Vertonghen created Tottenham’s first goal with a pin-point cross onto the foot of Heung-min Son and added a second himself with a rare goal.

Despite concerns about Alderweireld’s long-term future at the club, it is great to see him getting in on the banter. Hopefully, a good run in the Champions League will encourage him to see his future remains at Spurs, but that partly lies on Daniel Levy to pay him what he is worth.
