Charlie Nicholas singles out three players who do not want to be at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur will have another opportunity this evening to try and return to form when they host Red Star Belgrade.

It is a vitally important match for Mauricio Pochettino’s side if they harbour any ambition of making it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League with them currently trailing their Serbian opponents by two points in the table.

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has claimed that three of Tottenham’s established players no longer want to be at the club.

He singled out the Belgian duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, who are both out of contract at the end of the season and also included Danny Rose as the third player who no longer wishes to be in North London.

Rose was given permission to miss the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East to discuss a possible move away from the club only for a move to fail to materialise ahead of the summer transfer window closing (Spurs official).

Nicholas told Sky Sports: “This is a must-win scenario. Tottenham were lucky against Watford as it was never a goal that Dele Alli scored. Mauricio Pochettino made seven changes – the most he has ever made – and he did not get a response.

Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld do not want to be there. They have not offered them a contract so they are just running them down. Danny Rose is the exact same – this whole situation is dysfunctional.”

Opinion

Nicholas is right to reference tonight’s match as a must-win, if the players fail to perform this evening then Pochettino should use the Champions League competition to blood some of his young players and make those who do not wish to be at the club surplus to requirements.
