Chelsea striker grovels to Courtois after Hugo Lloris comment

Chelsea striker Oliver Giroud has put his foot in it after he named Hugo Lloris the best goalkeeper at the World Cup whilst overlooking his club team-mate Thibaut Courtois.

It’s not as if Giroud was wrong when he chose his French compatriot, Lloris ahead of the Belgian who he plays and trains with all year. He is absolutely spot on with his assessment that the Tottenham shot-stopper is the better player.

However, in typical Giroud fashion, he has tried to grovel to Courtois by apologising for his comment. I’d expect nothing less from the Rylan lookalike.

Lloris has shown once again why he is held in such high regard by the Tottenham faithful, his wonder save against Uruguay was once such reminder of his quality.

Ironically, if England and France make it to the final. It will be the first time that two players from the same club side have captained their nation in a final – Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

“Thibaut has an impressive wingspan. It’s hard to beat him on the sides. He can stop balls in any area,” Giroud told a press conference.

“I have scored a few goals against him in training with Chelsea and I hope I can do it on Tuesday. They’re both great keepers.

“And they both deserve to be elected as best keeper of the tournament, even if I have a preference for Hugo. The best is Hugo. Sorry Thibaut.”
