‘Class act’ Spurs player makes it into Garth Crooks’ team of the week

Tottenham Hotspur threw away a two goal lead in the North London derby against Arsenal yesterday afternoon.

Despite the Gunners putting Spurs under intense pressure, it was Mauricio Pochettino’s side who took the lead.

When Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno could only parry Erik Lamela’s shot across goal, it was Christian Erikse who reacted quickest to tap home.

Despite uncertainty regarding the Dane’s future amid reports of a potential move to Real Madrid ahead of today’s European transfer window deadline (Daily Mail).

Eriksen is out of contract at the end of the season and could walk way on as a free agent unless the club can persuade him that his future should remain with the Champions League finalists.

BBC football pundit Garth Crooks included Eriksen in his Premier League team of the week following his display against Unai Emery’s side.

It was just the second Premier League game which the 27-year-old has started from the four top flight games played so far this season.

Crooks told the BBC: “When I saw Eriksen start this north London derby I immediately thought Spurs can’t lose this game. I was right, they didn’t lose the game but they should have won it. Eriksen is a class act and when he is on his game there are few better.

“It was the Dane who bust a gut to get up with the play and tap home the loose rebound from the Erik Lamela shot. Spurs look like they might hang on to Eriksen for a little while longer which is just as well because they have no-one who can handle the ball better. As for Arsenal it’s a good job they have Matteo Guendouzi. He’s a Granit Xhaka with brains.”
