Dempsey: Atmosphere at the Lane has become tense

Clint Dempsey has admitted that the Spurs players have noticed the tension in the stands at White Hart Lane among the fans as we cling on to our hopes of Champions League qualification.

We are out of the driving seat for Champions League football. Arsenal will play three Premier League matches before we next kick a ball in top-flight football and it could more or less all be over by then.

Dempsey’s performance against Everton didn’t exactly set the game on fire and the player himself has hinted that the uneasy atmosphere at the Lane could be affecting the players.

He said: “That’s the way it’s kind of been the last few games at home. It’s been tense. I’ve felt like that’s how the atmosphere has been.

“I don’t know if it has been affecting performances. It’s been noticeable, in the last three home games. There are a few teams right there in the fight for the Champions League and it makes it more interesting for people to watch.

“It’s a little bit more stressful but it’s a good stress. At least we’re pushing to try to get that spot.

“It’s going to come to the end and, hopefully, we have enough character to get the job done. You’ve got to keep going and do everything you can to help the team.

Dempsey said: “The race for a top-four finish will be a fight all the way until the end. We would have liked all three points against Everton but it was an important point.”

  1. Please only report his comments when he's a regular and performs at a higher level than has been evidenced to date

  2. Dom hit the head on the nail, we are playing poor quality football, we cant see where the next goal is coming from, players look shot to pieces, same old story repeating its self !!!

  3. Firstly , a stupid admission to make – as it could affect the other players. Secondly, if Dempsy actually played well and scored some goals this so called 'pressure' will be alleviated. Thirdly, one would expect the players to be able to cope with 'pressure' as this is their main employment , desire to play at the highest level and is commensurate with their wages.

  4. Dempsey has seeming put in no effort since he signed for us. He looks sluggish, can't pass, can't score, has no awareness of where he is on the pitch. He is of low quality and adds nothing to the team. Sell him!
