Club confirm rumoured Spurs target has suffered a serious injury

The January transfer window is now less than three weeks away from opening and it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will look to improve his squad.

Tottenham Hotspur were recently linked with a potential £50million move for Lyon midfielder Memphis Depay, who was also said to be interesting fellow Premier League side Liverpool (Calciomercato).

The former Manchester United player suffered a serious knee injury after 46 minutes of Lyon’s Ligue 1 match against Rennes on Sunday and had to be replaced by Martin Terrier.

Lyon confirmed through their official Twitter account following the 1-0 loss that the Dutch international had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee and will be out of action for at least six months.

Depay will now face a race to be fit to be ready for the Euro 2020 tournament and any potential exit from the French side will be shelved until he has fully recovered.
