Darren Bent urges Spurs to start star for the match against Arsenal

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent insisted that Mauricio Pochettino must start Christian Eriksen in tomorrow’s North London derby

Tottenham make the short trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal with both sides coming into the match on the back of respective defeats.

Eriksen has found himself in the starting eleven for just one of Tottenham’s three opening Premier League matches this season, having come off the bench against Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

The Dane’s future at the club has been up in the air since he revealed just days after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool that he wanted to seek a new challenge whilst also inviting interest from Real Madrid (Ekstra Bladet).

Bent believes that the 27-year-old must start every match when he is fit and available with the Dane arguably being the club’s most creative player.

He told GentingBet: “Against Aston Villa, he changed the game. To be fair to Eriksen, he is not throwing his toys out the pram. He has got on with what he has needed to do and nobody can say that he hasn’t.

“Every time he has been called upon, he has performed well. Of course, Spurs are in a tricky situation but when you have him, he has to play week in, week out. Right now, if he is for and available, you have to play him.”

Bent also suggested that Harry Kane will be wanting to see Eriksen in the side to help him put the ball in the back of the net.

“As a striker, when you know you’ve got creative players like that who can see a pass and unlock doors, it makes such a difference,’ Bent added.

“He (Eriksen) can make something out of nothing and can score a goal too.”
