Defender signs new Spurs deal

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that central defender Davinson Sanchez has signed a new contract at the club until 2024.

The Colombian international joined Spurs from Ajax last summer for a fee which could rise to £42 million and has been rewarded with an improved deal after his impressive debut campaign in the Premier League.

Sanchez who is still only 21 played 31 times in the Premier League for Spurs this season, both in a back three with Belgian pair Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, but mostly as a central defensive duo with Jan, due to Alderweireld’s prolonged injury/contractual issues this season.

I think the vast majority of Spurs fans will be happy to see the club rewarding the youngster, but the contract news we all want to see is Toby Alderweireld committing his long-term future to the club.

Sanchez joins Kyle Walker-Peters in putting pen to paper on a new deal this week.
