37 year old striker linked with Spurs move

White Hart Lane - Tottenham Hotspur Football News

A quick look around the football news sites today and one story leaps out to suggest that it’s a very quiet day on the Spurs news front.

Alessandro Del Piero is being linked with a move to the Premier League, most notably to Tottenham, Arsenal and QPR.  The veteran Italian forward is out of contract at Juventus and is being tipped to leave the Serie A champions after 19 years at the club.

There is no doubt that Del Piero was a world class player, but are we really in the market to sign a 37-year-old whose best years are behind him and would command a hefty wage packet?  I’m hope, and I hope that Harry Redknapp is too busy counting his transfer war chest to land the likes of Loic Remy rather than Del Piero.

Let’s just file this speculation under a quiet news day, shall we?

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Del Piero wouldn’t be the worst player to have. If we have Champions League football next season, unlike the 2010-2011 season, we need to rotate in order to keep them all fit. Bring in Junior Hoilett as cover for Lennon and Bale, also bring in Remy, Adebayor and Del Piero along with keeping hold of Defoe during the summer.

  2. Bring him in to compete for VDV’s spot. He may be knocking on a bit (or a lot) but one key area we really lack in is set-pieces. He brings that to the table and can also still provide an effective presence through his vision and creativity in an area of the pitch that doesn’t necessarily require a great deal of pace. I don’t have a problem with the club signing ageing players, but they need to be in this band of quality.

  3. He loves a mature player does old ‘arry. Del Piero is still a fine player and is still contributing like the youngsters. I don’t think it would be a bad move.

  4. Del Piero has all the attributes that Redknapp likes. He used to be a world class player, he is over 35, he has a bus pass, qualifies for winter fuel benefit and owns a zimmer frame

  5. A classic 'Arry buy!
Dont forget he was after Beckham too.
    Salivated at getting Gallas.
Was the only fool to bid for a crocked Kanu at Portsmouth.
    Seriously, Harry, fuck off mate!

  6. We need to show some ambition..harry doesn’t know what this is. There are plenty of decent young strikers out there. No wonder luka wants to leave, can you blame him the last 4 signings, 3 have been over 30 and one just on loan.

  7. Levy stop being so fucking tight enough is enough now its us supporters who walk the street pull together what money we av to come and watch our team play the team we love and just rip our hearts out ok we not in cl im gutted deeply but we in europe every fault of winning that or giving it ago end of the day the further we go the more revenue we get as a buisness man thats not a buisness move and instead of our target bein 4th how bout aiming higher sort it out or get out!!!! The fans are always right we are what clubs need to survive!!!!!! C.O.Y.S wake up.

  8. Sent to the wrong place sorry mate lol. But my point still stays the same as for del piro lol we want to move forward not backward while we at it lets see if hoddle or ozzy are fit for a season!!!
