Dembele’s agent opens talks with new club

Lyon have now initiated negotiations with Mousa Dembele’s representatives ahead of a potential summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur before the close of the summer transfer window, according to French outlet Buzz Sport.

The 31-year-old midfielder has just twelve months to run on his extra existing deal at Spurs and is expected to depart the club.

The Belgian is currently on leave after missing the club’s tour of the USA following his involvement in the World Cup and has been heavily linked with moves to both China and Italy.

However, Lyon have now entered the race and are preparing a €15 million  offer before the window closes.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are sweating over the fitness of fellow midfielder Victor Wanyama who has suffered a knee injury.  The Kenyan missed over four months of last season after picking up a problem during last pre-season.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Dembele was rumoured to want a big money contract in China but did not respond when their window was open. if he wants to go to Lyon and Lyon is prepared to buy his contract; I think Spurs will let him go; but one wonders what Lyon will be prepared to offer Dembele. Hopefully Levy will go in for Kovacic this week given this situation and the Waynama uncertainty

  2. I don’t know about ‘did not respond’ – the Lyon story is the first one apparently based on hard facts rather than sheer speculation, and if Dembele ends up in the French League for less than he cost Spurs, it’ll show that he wasn’t quite the World-beater his adoring fans have been claiming – Real Madrid and Barcelona must have had first refusal, and refused!
