Embarrased to be a Spurs fan

0

Kyle Walker deleted his Twitter account after receiving abuse for his performace as Spurs lost to Chelsea.

As a Tottenham Hotspur fan who has ran this site for over 15 years I’m personally disgusted at the level of abuse that Walker received on the social network.

After the game he posted two angry tweets before deleting his account @kyle28walker, which had over a quarter of a million followers.

They read: “Would love to know what I’m doing so different I give 100% every game and still u (have) something to say I’m 22 and learning #embarrassing.

“If I said what I thought to these people I would get done humans make mistakes it was 90mins and I though(t it was) a foul end off (sic)!!!!”

The right-back is only 22 and is still learning his trade, for any of our players to get abused for their performances while wearing the Spurs shirt is an absolute disgrace, thankfully they don’t represent the views of the vast majority of Spurs fans who are fully behind Walker and the rest of the players.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Ppl make me sick!!! not true spurs fans!!!!. It's left me fuming how many idiotic ppl there are!!!. Still gonna be the best right back in the country!!!.

  2. Anyone who uses Twitter should expect this kind of abuse from faceless idiotic morons. Why this kind of social media is so popular is beyond me.

  3. Supporters support the team and that means supporting the players. Sure he did the wrong thing and he feels bad about it. What happened "to date is to do"? If you support Spurs you support a player trying his best. At the next game how about "stand up for Kyle Walker"?

  4. its a shame, but he is a terrible defender perhaps spurs should put him out onloan to a smaller club so he can learn his trade, been bad for a while after a good start

    • He has looked poor lately but just needs nurturing, he will be great, but Naughton at the moment is the better defender and should be given a couple of games, remember when we signed the pair, Naughton was the better prospect.
Gallas is the one that worries me, I love the mans passion and desire but his legs have gone, Chelsea thought he was gone 5 years ago and got rid, Arsenal thought so 2-3 years ago…….its time we stopped playing him.
After yesterday he cant possibly drop Caulker for Gallas….its time BAE came back and verts moves into the middle with Caulker and Lloris is our new permanent keeper.

Friedel makes more saves because his organsation and dominance of the area is poor compared to Lloris, Loris puts out alot of fires before they get a chance to develop, Brad just stays on that line

  5. Kyle Walker was big enough to join the site, surely he should be big enough to handle the blunt opinion of one or two fans from time to time. I think the fact that he has quit just highlights the fact that he must surely know his performances have been pretty dire so far this season. Villas-Boas must surely consider dropping him, Gallas and Dempsey.

    • Sigurdsson is the worst, dont know why we signed that guy, he is infuriatingly slow and looks like he shouldnt be on the pitch…..god we shouldnt of sold VDVaart

  6. Supporters should not turn to abuse, but there is no hiding the fact that Walker has had a terrible start to the season. It might look like all the hype and success from last season, have gone to his head. His defending has been awful and its time to give the Kyle a chance. He is nowhere near being as good as people want to make him. He got pace, but lack crossing, cant beat a player, his positioning is bad, his judgment is poor and he is not aware of what goes on behind his back. Yes he is only 22, and can still develop into a great player. But its time for a run on the bench.

  7. problem with Twitter its for young faceless arsewipes who probably dont even support spurs and if they do
are the NEW age supporter who are impatient imbeciles who follow the team but never go, or are the ones that do the booing because the think we should win every game ,this is the NEW AGE supporter
Now the supporter that goes to spurs is pretty old and is used to the ups and downs of being a SPURS supporter .

  8. Here here as they say. Some people are shockingly disrespectful. And also very bad losers. God have you read harry hotspur’s latest diatribes. They made me cringe. He should become an arsenal or chelski fan. He lacks the class for spurs.

    • Agree Harry Hotspurs is a load of shite…..he is only followed by people under the age of twelve as he has no knowledge of the game and thinks he can write……legend in his own lunchtime……needs to go back to school and learn to write English!

  9. What type of Spurs supporter are you if you give it to Kyle??? So what if he made a mistake??? Hang your heads in shame you so called supporters. I love seeing Kyles name on the team sheet every week when we play. Quality player, most dangerous right back in the league..

  10. I'm not gonna lie, I was probably one of the first people to flag up the fact that Kyle has been struggling for form all season. His performances, since the start of the season, have been well below the standard we have come to expect from the highly talented right-back and in truth his display yesterday again left a lot to be desired. I believe that it may be worth taking him out of the firing line for a couple of weeks in order to allow him time to re-focus, as knowing you have to compete for your position can sometimes inspire extra motivation to improve your general standard of play and help sharpen the mind.

However, with that being said, one thing that I have NEVER questioned is the lads ability or his commitment to the cause. Indeed, every time I have seen Walker put on a Spurs shirt, I am left with no doubt about his passion and desire to play for this wonderful club of ours, and these are traits that should NEVER be overlooked. LETS REMEMBER THIS IS THE SAME GUY WHO PLAYED FOR US, THROUGH THE PAIN BARRIER, WHILE NURSING A COUPLE OF BROKEN TOES…. Any one of our players can be susceptible to a dip of form , but what is important when that happens is that we support and encourage them rather than jump on their backs, as this is what being a supporter is all about, and ultimately this IS WHEN THE PLAYERS NEED US THE MOST!!!

Too many times this season I have heard jeers during the match for a misplaced pass or a bad touch and if this continues to happen, it won't be long before our players become frightened/apprehensive about expressing themselves on the ball for fear of recrimination from their OWN fans. I am in no doubt that if this continues to happen we will NOT only fail to achieve our desired targets for the season, but we will alienate the players from the supporters all together. To vent your frustrations or concerns about the team/player/ club on these forums amongst fellow supporters is one thing, but it is important that around the players/ manager that we display our UNDIVIDED support/ encouragement as this will best serve the club (the players, management and ourselves) in the achieving what we all desire.

We must remember that we are a collective, who are bonded by the dreams and ambitions, for this club of ours, that we ALL share. When we win, we win together and when we lose we do the same. FORGETTING THIS FACT WILL ONLY BE COUNTER- PRODUCTIVE MOVING FORWARD!!! Onwards and upwards…

  11. Shame about the twittering but he is no replacement for Corluka who used to play Lennon in with guile and angles, could ping in a decent cross and could defend despite his lack of pace.
    Now we have pace and…..?

    • “Despite his lack of pace” ???? Wow, that must be the understatement of the year. Molasses could “run” faster than Corluka…

  12. Completely agree with the comment about the Happy Hotspur blog, it will do the club no favours if players that have stated their loyalty to the club are now questioning it thanks to mindless abuse on Twitter. Little side note I was at the lane yesterday and think the level of support shown by the home fans at times was not short of awful. The lane is no longer a fortress not with the over expectant boo boys piling on the pressure if were not 3 goals ahead by half time. No wonder were playing better away from home this season!

  13. Kyle Walker has been a pain, a constant pain. He clearly doesn’t understand the ‘right back’ role. Its unfortunate he got stick on twitter, but he can’t cite being 22 as an excuse. Oscar is 20, Hazard is 22 etc…. He’s out of his depth considering our ambitions. Having said that, our midfield cover in Livermore & Huddlestone also leave me with more questions than answers

  14. Fans are entitled to their opinions. Unfortunately twitter gives easy access to send hate mail directly to people, that’s the world we live in. Personally feel the club should ban them from using it. aside from that walker has been very poor so far, doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing. “am I a defender? Am I a winger?” can’t do either at the moment. What happened since last season…

  15. Let's face it he has been poor so far in every game! I'm a big fan of Walker! Maybe getting dropped and a bit of competion from Naughton will be the kick up the backside he needs to get him playing again and not think he's an automatic starter!!!

  16. Twitter is a place where idiotic nobodies post crap. Stay off it if you dont want abuse. Kyle is a great young player still learning, even the best make errors.esides the game was already lost.

  17. Overrated player. The only thing he has is pace. It is strange why players are rated at football when all they can do is run fast.

  18. Kyle, The overwhelming majority of Spurs fans truly appreciate what a great job you do for Spurs and recognise your outstanding contribution to our progress over the last few years. Don't lose heart mate – you're still highly regarded by anyone who knows anything about football..

  19. Wlaker has been poor this year and should be replaced by naughton. Nothing to do with who's better just simply everyone needs a kick up the arse and time to reflect on what's going on. I hate people targetting a plyer like the twits. Gallas cost us two goals..nothing? Walker had been giving the ball away, even in simple passes he's not playing well so like any other player should be benched. It's what every other club in the world do. But for some reason no matter who the manager Spurs keep playing em?

  20. Kyle did not have the best of games. But he has had some outstanmding ganes for us of late.Abnd too those fans who have given him some shitte,Fot goodness sake grow up,or go and support the gooners. The team did not play that badly against Chelsea, who were the better team in the first half. But we were just as good as them in the 2nd half,if not better at times. And this was with out Dembele or BI am of the opion that if Dembele had been available, things could well have gone in our favour, even more so than bale. What makes it seem so bad,is that because Chelsea ditated pthe play in tha first half, the media have suddenly fell in love with Chelsea.how thing can change.in a few days..I think there were a lot of positives for us to come out of this game, the defensive errors aside..Credit to chelsea thy played well, but we are not that far off of them, even after all there enormous spending, and us having two of our quality players out,so all is not lost.

  21. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not to post abuse about one of our own players. Sure he might not have had the best of games but posting abuse to him sure is not the way to go. Get behind our players and not against them.

  22. Well, really not sure what Walker was trying to achieve for the fourth goal yesterday,we could all see he messed up and he knew it too..I have to admit those Chelsea fans really make us their Bitch.don't they?? I thought that was the wittiest abuse we've received from a set of away fans ever and not surprised it came from them,as let's be honest they have made an art out of creating a song for years.Hate em but you have to hand it to em.They took the piss out of us again, quite funny and upsetting to really,we're to them what the spammers are to us..NOTHING.

  23. Gallas is only good for Subs-bench. 2 goals were attributted to him. as a n Experienced defender, he should have knocked a ball AWAY from Spurs goal mouth area, instead of infront of Spurs area, which lead to an oppen opportunity for Cahill to lash in the goal against Spurs. Noy good football brains. AVB pls take note.Gallas in past was ok, NOT the present. 2nd halve, Spurs were slack and weak in midfield, being overrun by Chelsea. AVB shud have seen the 1st halve signs and put more clout on Spurs midfield. Too bad Sandro was not put at his best at midfield, but at defence ? Mata was having the freedom to run at Spurs. Sandro should always at midfield to kill off opposition's build-up, with strong offensive partners like Big skillful Dembelle' I said offensive, cos Dembelle, cos Dembelle CAN score goals in the likes of Frank Lampard.
In short, Gallas be put in subsbench, between him and DAWS, I sellect DAWS. Always in midfield 1st choice should be potent pair of minimum Dembele and Sandro, and an equally strong midfield spoiller, on standby. We missed Bale and DEmbelle. Kyle can still be better, he's still improving n young.

  24. Agree with the sentiments. Walker os a shade of last season but even then was suspect in defence.

The abuse by the idiots is unforgivable but he doed need to direly strengthen his defensive game and i would like to see Smith and Naughton given a chance. I realise that walker is upset but if he were at RM and had such a stinker the flak would have fused his phone. If you spin about in the limelight you must take the flak with the cheers. Personally facebook sickens me as it like a penis measuring contest between immature males and the invasiveway it is shoved upon you treally p****s me off totally.

  25. If Chech hadn’t pulled off that wonder save a couple if minutes before Kyle had the mishap at the other end, he would have been a hero to the same haters giving him stick.

Get off his back. We should consider ourselves lucky to have such young talent in our squad who will only improve with age.

  26. A GLITCH IT HAPPENS IT WAS NOT INTENDED MR WALKER IS A FINE PLAYER A PLAYER WE MUST VALUE HE IS LEARNING HIS TRADE AND THEIR ARE MOMENTS WHEN A RUSH OF BLOOD CAN MAKE A FOOL OF YOU AND ONE SO YOUNG AS KYLE THERE WILL BE MOMENTS WHEN YOUR BEST WILL NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR SOME VERY FICKLE FANS , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND INCREASE YOUR GREAT FLYING RUNS UP THE WING KEEP YOUR CHIN UP .

  27. Im worring about Kyle Walker cause Twitter case proved how weak is his mentality. If he cant handle few internet trolls how he can handle big games, when he gonna get massive abuse!? I think people worry to much about the players and noone give a s..t about the fans. Do you know how much abuse I've got from Arsenal and Chelsea fans when we lost the place in Champions League. Did any player apologized for it!??? No! I'll start worry about Kyle when he turn down some big offer from Man City or Real, he shows some true loyalty to the club.

  28. Sorry Karl, please dont think all fans feel this way. With your cavalier style of play, you was born to play for Spurs. Carry on the good work and please stay with us for many more years. You are the best right back in the prem and you play for us. NUFF SAID

  29. im spurs through and through and will only ever support and love the club uncondtionally….
i question any supporter behaving in this way?
if your glory chasing then head back to chelski or manu
only real support required at spurs

  30. This abuse is totally unacceptable and it makes me embarrassed to be a Spurs fan. When will these morons learn. Problem is that we have a large section of Spurs fans who are just Class A idiots..not just when talking football but life in general. You see it every game, people booing players and moaning about every bad touch or pass. They don't know football, they don't know anything..
Kyle Walker will be England right back for years to come, please dont listen to these moronic fans, they have no idea.
On another note if fellow YIDOS see these twats on Twitter talking crap, make sure youlet them know how stupid they are. Unfollow or teach them how to be a proper football fan..

  31. wlaker getting abuse for what……….losing a game of football ? ITS A SPORT…….he made an error …..so what………his efforts for the team are not questionable………we lost fair and square……another day and it would be different etc………..any decent spurs fans will think this is a joke ……….

  32. Walker is just 22. Their are few full backs better then him in the league and we just have to let him grow into a man and learn as he is only human. I'd rather him make the error at 3-2 down then if we we're winning or drawing.

  33. i agree his perfomances this season arent quite matching last year, but he is 22. he's quality and will only get better. i'm sick of spurs "fans" booing the minute we go behind regardless of who we're playing. we had key players missing and were beaten by the better side on the day. end of.

  34. WALKER IS PROBABLY SPURS MOST CONSISTENT PLAYER OR AT LEAST 1 OF THEM! GUTTED WE LOST AND IF HE THOUGHT IT WAS A FOUL THEN THATS WHY CHELSKI WERE ABLE TO GO ON AND SCORE ITS UNFORTUNATE BUT SERIOUSLY WITHOUT BALE, DEMBELE, PARKER, KABOUL AND ECKOTU PLAYING, WHO WOULD HAVE ALL STARTED AND U NEED THEM AGAINST CHELSKI AND THEY LOOK AS THOUGH THEY COULD WIN THE LEAGUE BUT IM STILL VERY CONFIDANT THAT WOULDNT HAVE HAPPENED BUT MATA OSCAR AND HAZZARD WHO WE SHOULD AV GOT ARE RUNNING THE SHOW FOR THEM ANYWAY WITHOUT ABRAMOVICHS BILLIONS THEYD STRUGGLE TO DO WHAT THERE DOING NOW.

  35. Kyle had a 'stinker' there is no doubt about that, but the game was already lost really when he made his fatal error. I am always very critical when a player does not give 100%, but i am more forgiving if they make mistakes. We all make mistakes in life, it's how we learn from them and try our best not to make them again.

I am more concerned about Tactics in general, and please read my article on the Web.
