‘Embarrassing’ – Some Spurs fans are not happy with the atmosphere at the new stadium

Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first home defeat of the new Premier League campaign on Sunday against Newcastle United.

Some Spurs fans have been critical of the atmosphere at the new 62,062 capacity seater stadium after video footage emerged which was recorded inside the stadium of the fans sitting in silence while one spectator is more interested in playing a game on his smartphone.

The video sparked a reaction on social media with some supporter confirming that there is also a lack of atmosphere generated in their respective area of the ground.

When the stadium was built, it was hoped that the 17,500 capacity single tier south stand would generate a wall of noise.

Other supporters also blamed the silence on the fact that many are being priced out of attending matches whilst also becoming somewhat of a hotbed for tourists and day trippers.

Whilst the performance against the Magpies certainly did not help matters, seeing this kind of footage at our stadium is frankly embarrasing.

If you’re going to go to a game, sing your heart out and get behind the boys.  Leave your phone in your pocket and watch the match.

  1. You guys gonna post anything positive soon? Jesus, it’s three games into the season and feels like we are relegated on this website I read it every day and ur making me bloody miserable since the Newcastle game. Lots of season to look forward to still, cheer up. We haven’t even got to see ndombele and lo celso are full tilt yet, three games don’t define a season.

  2. While I agree, Alex, that scenes like that from the stands are embarrassing, I would argue that the relationship between the fans in the stands and the players on the pitch is a simbiotic one. i.e. the fans feed of energy from the pitch, and the players in turn feed off that energy from the stands. Both have their job to do.
What we’ve seen in the opening weeks of this season on the pitch has been disjointed, clueless and – dare I say – lazy football. Football with no creativity, no hunger, no tactics, and no ideas. No plan. Stagnant and boring.
I love Pochettino, but he has lost the grip of this crop of players, and that’s a whole other conversation (Eeriksen, Vertonghen, no right backs).
Fans sitting in a huge new grandstand watching a team that barely got past newly promoted Villa, and who cant get a goal past in-disarray Newcastle United?
I’m surprised more didn’t fall asleep altogether.
I don’t blame the fans. I don’t blame the gaffer either. I blame the Chairman and the board for once again delivering abject failure to build on what this manager has done for the club. The powers that be at THFC value profit before success, and so the fans will continue to be dejected, the players will too, and without change, the atmosphere among both will continue to disappear.
